yeah, I hear the Japanese like flashing (neon) lights. Maybe not so much like, as in have been 'conditioned' by living in close proximity. It must be disconcerting with a high fever to walk around Osaka or any other City in the day, but at nights it must 'seem' like you are seeing flashhing lights everywhere
Not just Japanese but Asians generally love flashing lights. You can find these on Buddha statute at a Southeast Asian temple. I found Christmas tree lights on my mother-in-law's coffin.
It is a sign of glory, anyway. BTW, Asians love fluorescent lights, too. It seems to be the symbol of victory over darkness of the night.
